A Look At Family Therapy Eugene OR

By Richard Thomas

Families will encounter times in their lives when they have struggles. They can face divorce or the loss of a loved one. It can be one member of the family, such as a child with a learning disorder. When something like this affects one person, everyone will feel the pressure. This is when family therapy Eugene OR is necessary.

Sometimes, the situation may not be so serious or so obvious. However, it is always necessary to look out for the smaller things in life as well. For example, a child may throw more tantrums than usual. Teenagers may be withdrawn and this can carry on for weeks at a time. You may feel that you are having struggles communicating with your spouse.

It is also not pleasant for the rest of the unit staying in the same home as someone like this. In addition, the person will usually have something to do during the day. It can involve school and sports. They may have a lot of responsibilities to take care of in the work place. When people are having problems at home, it will start to show.

A person may be sceptical of therapy. However, in the meantime your family can be taking a lot of strain. Your children may be noticing the tension in the home. It can affect them at school and at home. They may even develop other disorders. Teenagers who develop something like depression or anorexia may be notified by the school, but parents will be in denial of this.

Every family needs to heal old wounds. Sometimes a parent would have gone through difficult times as a young child. As a result they will lack intimacy. They will be afraid of authority figures. This can really bring you down. There are different ways in which a family can get involved in counselling. However, this will depend on the age of the kids and what they have been through.

The therapist may make use of role play and other practical aspects during therapy. She or he will encourage the members of the family to participate and to say what is on their heart. The role play is especially good for someone who tends to bottle everything up inside. The rest of the unit may not know what they have been thinking.

Someone like this will feel a great sense of relief and freedom, once they have expressed themselves. However, they need to keep on exercising this type of communication pattern. They will set goals, but often they will have to move with baby steps. This will just depend on the situation.

Children and teenagers will feel a lot more confident when they go to family therapy instead of one on one counselling. Of course, this should be combined, but they need their parents to be involved at this point in their life. They need them to help them through this stage and to provide them with the confidence because this will help them later on in life during their adult years.
