Energy Healing And Associated Beliefs

By Christine Taylor

Maintaining a healthy mind, body and spirit can often be challenging. While this is the case, there are practices which can assist when it comes to ongoing energy healing and overall well being. In some cases, Reiki can provide immediate relief. Whereas, in others ongoing massage and energy work such as Rolfing has been known to help individuals.

In most cases, this type of work is based on a practitioner, whether licensed or otherwise whom has the ability to channel energy. Often known as "chi, " the energy is transferred through a number of methods. These methods include, hands-off, hands-on and distance. While many of these techniques have become popular over the years, the effects of many still remain skeptical when it comes to the fields of medicine and science.

While most often used with humans, some of the same methods and techniques are now being used when it comes to working with animals. As a result, these healing forms are often considered universal in nature. In most cases, the recipient will feel a sense of heat during a session. After which, it is believed the energy transferred from healer to recipient continues to work in various ways even after a session is complete.

Schools involved in the practice include, Biofield, Spiritual, Contact, Distance, Therapeutic Touch, Reiki and Qigong along with many others. Two of the newest forms involved in this practice are those of sound and color. In the first, the recipient lays on a massage table while listening to a number of different tones in a sequential order which are played along the chakras. Whereas, colors are often presented in a sequential form through a number of slides or videos on a headset.

While considered a Spiritual form, the methods are not associated with any organized religion. As such, most are labeled as non-denominational when it comes to associated beliefs. In fact, a number of organized religions view the methods as being outside the concept of God. For, unlike faith which often requires the laying on of hands by a priest or other religious figure, most practitioners do not have to be associated with any religious belief.

There remains a great deal of skepticism, especially in the medical community when it comes to these New Age practices. Although, there are now nursing organizations and nurses whom have accepted therapeutic touch as a valid method and technique. For, there has been scientific and visual proof that the method has had positive effects on a number of individuals.

One area which has the most skeptics in that of distant healing. For, it can often be difficult to believe that an individual across the room, across town or across the world could have the ability to impact someone so far away. As a result, most believe that the process in this area is suggestive rather than explanatory.

Whether believing in distance or other forms, the methods and techniques have become more popular over the last few decades. For, the more individuals who experience success with the methods and techniques used in different areas have provided a number of reviews and testimonials which have created more interest over time. As a result, more people than ever before are now at least trying these alternative methods.
